UNCG’s MARC U-STAR Fellows get hands on research experience during their junior and senior year by support that includes:

  • A generous yearly stipend (~$12,000) 
  • Tuition at UNCG is paid at the in-state level
  • Undergraduate research in a faculty mentor’s lab
  • Funding to engage in a research project
  • A paid summer research experience
  • Specialized courses and workshops
  • Guidance in applying to graduate school
  • Travel funds to attend approved national scientific conferences
  • Opportunities to publish and present their work

Commitment from our Fellows:

  • Agree to conduct research part-time during the regular school year and full-time during the 10-week summer period
  • Maintain a 3.0 GPA to remain in the program
  • Attend specialized professional development activities, such as workshops, trainings, and meetings
  • Complete the 2 required MARC elective classes:
    • Race and Human Diversity
    • Genomics and Evolutionary Medicine
